"Journalist Henry Torres reported on Saturday [Dec. 6] that he was allegedly assaulted by the mayor of San Marcos, Ocotepeque, Gerardo Antonio Mejía, in an incident he links to his reporting on the mayor's administration.
In statements to [media outlet] HCH, Torres recounted that the attacks occurred after the publication of several investigations denouncing Mejía's alleged mismanagement and the social problems affecting the community.

The journalist added that he received death threats during the attack. 'They told me they were going to kill me. Their intention was to force me into the truck and then make me disappear, or I don't know.'"
