“Through its X account, the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression (RELE, for its acronym in Spanish) of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) expressed its concern about the media bill, approved on May 14 in the [Uruguayan] Senate, and asked the Chamber of Deputies to 'protect respect for international standards on freedom of expression' in the legislative stages for which it's responsible.

The Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) also spoke out on the matter. It said that it 'rejects regulations on audiovisual content' established in the bill and, specifically, made reference to article 72, which establishes that broadcast services regulated by the law 'have the duty to provide citizens with information, analysis, opinions, comments and assessments in a complete, impartial, serious, rigorous, plural and balanced manner between and with respect to political actors.'"
