"The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and its Special Rapporteurs for Freedom of Expression (RELE) and for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (REDESCA) condemn the harassment of artists, journalists and human rights defenders in Cuba, and call on the State to cease acts of persecution against those who exercise the right to freedom of expression.

Since the beginning of 2021, the IACHR and its Special Rapporteurs have followed with concern the escalation of repression against independent journalists, artists, and human rights defenders who exercise their freedom of expression and artistic creation in the country. In this context, the harassment of members of the San Isidro Movement (MSI, for its acronym in Spanish), who, since November 2020, have been harassed by the political police and the Department of State Security, is of particular concern. In the weeks and months that followed the paradigmatic protest of Nov. 27, numerous detentions of people who are part of the MSI and its allies were documented. They face constant police surveillance outside their homes, which could amount to an house arrest."
