"On Aug. 27, 2025, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) issued Resolution 62/2025 granting protective measures for journalist Rory Daniel Branker, after determining he faces a situation of “gravity and urgency,” with his rights to life and personal integrity at risk of irreparable harm in Venezuela.
According to the petition, Branker, editor of the news site La Patilla, was detained by state agents on Feb. 20, 2025, and has not been seen since. Relatives and colleagues have filed multiple search requests and legal actions to locate him and safeguard his life and well-being, but authorities have allegedly refused to provide even basic information about his whereabouts. The Venezuelan state did not respond to the IACHR.
After reviewing the claims, the Commission concluded that the longer Branker’s whereabouts remain unknown, the greater the likelihood of serious harm to his rights."
