"The organization of Nicaraguan Independent Journalists and Communicators (PIN, by its Spanish acronym) denounced the sentence against the sports writer and political prisoner Miguel Mendoza Urbina, arguing that it lacks a legal basis and, therefore, it should be annulled. President Daniel Ortega's Judiciary sentenced the member of the opposition to nine years of prison and disqualified him from holding public office.
In a statement, released on social networks, the organization said that it 'absolutely rejects the conviction that imposes nine years in prison to our colleague Miguel Ángel Mendoza Urbina, because it lacks any real legal basis and for being the result of force while appearing to be a trial.'
Judge Luden Martín Quiroz García, of the Ninth Criminal District Court of Managua, was the 'executioner' who declared Miguel Mendoza guilty and who sentenced him."
