"Nearing it's 200th anniversary, [Brazilian] newspaper Diario de Pernambuco has had its journalistic collection recognized as cultural heritage of Brazil by Law 15,027 of 2024. Founded in 1825 by the typographer and journalist from Pernambuco, Antonino José de Miranda Falcão, Diario de Pernambuco is the oldest newspaper in circulation in the Southern Hemisphere and the oldest in the world in Portuguese. For almost 200 years, the newspaper has reported important events, especially the political, social and cultural history of the state of Pernambuco and Brazil."
