Journalists around the world face censorship and repression during pandemic: UN High Commissioner

"The freedom of the media is essential to have societies that are democratic, free and participatory, UN High Commissioner of Human Rights stated Tuesday during an event about the freedom of the press and speech in Geneva.

Michelle Bachelet emphasized that journalism enriches the comprehensions of many types of issues that are political, economic and social and that it is crucial to provide information during the coronavirus pandemic .

'But journalists around the world are facing censorship, surveillance, repression, intimidation, and physical violence. Many times these seem to be perpetrated by organized crimes, armed group or other private actors, including companies - but these can also be instigates o  condoned by State officials, she explained."
