"Mexican journalist Marcela Turati won the 2021 Javier Valdez Cárdenas Journalism Award convened by Penguin Random House, the publishing firm announced this Saturday in a statement.
The award considers the publication of a book with an investigation carried out by Turati about the massacres of San Fernando, in the northern state of Tamaulipas, where in 2010 hitmen from the Los Zetas cartel carried out mass murders that were later discovered when clandestine graves were found.
The announcement is made on the death anniversary of Javier Valdez, the Sinaloan journalist who founded the weekly Río Doce and who was murdered in May 2017 in Culiacán."
