"Auxiliary authorities in Playa Grande, an agency of the municipality of San Pedro Huamelula on the Oaxaca coast [in Mexico], arrested and jailed journalist Esaú Zavaleta during news coverage of a citizen complaint.
The journalist reported that he attended the community meeting after being invited by local residents to gather their testimony about the local authorities' intention to cut down an endangered tree located inside the home of young Deysi Abigail.
However, upon arriving at the meeting, which began around 8:00 a.m. today [Aug. 4], he was threatened, subdued and jailed by local police officers known as topiles."
