Mexican State will acknowledge responsibility for the disappearance of journalist Alfredo Jiménez Mota

"In a historical event, the first of its kind to be reached in Mexico in the case of a disappeared journalist, this Wednesday [Dec. 9] in Empalme, Sonora will be the signing of the Friendly Settlement Agreement and Public Act of Acknowledgement of Responsibility, by the Mexican State to the indirect victims of the disappearance of journalist Alfredo Jiménez Mota, which occurred on April 2, 2005.

'These agreements for us are not really a point of arrival, but a starting point,' says Ricardo Trotti, executive director of the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA), an organization that for 16 years has pointed out the lack of efficient and consistent official investigations that made sure the disappearance of Alfredo Jiménez was unpunished and presented the case before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR)."
