“Nicaraguan journalism lives between statelessness, self-censorship and imprisonment under the government led by husband and wife and co-presidents, Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, warned this Monday [Sept. 8] the NGO Human Rights Collective for the Historical Memory of Nicaragua.

In a statement marking International Journalists' Day, the Collective denounced before the international community the situation faced by dozens of exiled Nicaraguan journalists, 'victims of a systematic policy of state terrorism.'

The NGO indicated that many of the exiled journalists face a de facto statelessness imposed by the Nicaraguan state, which denies them entry into their country, as well as the renewal of their passports, identity cards, and birth certificates."
