Mexican journalist receives threatening message in area besieged by organized crime

"Dalia Villatoro, a journalist from Chiapas [in southern Mexico] who works for media outlets such as Verídico Noticias, publicly denounced being the victim of death threats allegedly linked to an organized crime group that left her un narcomensaje (a threatening message). This is happening as the southeastern border state of Mexico is experiencing a fierce war between drug cartels in the dispute for territory.

The Jalisco Cartel - New Generation (CJNG, for its acronym in Spanish) and the Sinaloa Cartel are expanding their operations, leaving in their wake a trail of death and destruction in much of Chiapas. It's even causing the displacement of thousands of citizens from their towns.

The death threat has caused alarm, especially after the recent attack against her colleague, Ariel Grajales Rodas, who was seriously wounded in his home by armed men."
