Paraguayan prosecutor files complaint against suspected killer of journalist Leo Veras

“One year and two months after the murder of Brazilian journalist Léo Veras, a new complaint was lodged by the public prosecutor's office of Paraguay. Prosecutor Alicia Sapriza, from the Center for the Fight against Organized Crime, accused Waldemar Pereira Rivas, known as “Cachorrão,” of criminal association and intentional homicide, and asked for a trial. The decision was made on Thursday, April 29, 2021.

The day before the complaint was lodged, Cintia Gonzáles, the journalist's widow, was called to testify for the first time about the murder, which took place on Feb. 12, 2020. ‘I am disappointed and indignant at the delay in justice. Only after 1 year and 2 months was I called to testify,' she told the Tim Lopes Program."
