"The Press and Society Institute (IPYS, for its acronym in Spanish) on Wednesday [Sept. 10] rejected a court ruling requiring a Peruvian media outlet in the southern Andean region of Puno to delete verified journalistic information it published online and on social media regarding a complaint against an irregular appointment in a court in that city.

IPYS added that the court ruling 'sets a bad precedent for press freedom in Peru,' after arguing that the report was of 'high public interest.'

Yesterday, journalist Óscar Pareja Castro, director of the Puno newspaper Los Andes, filed a complaint with the National Association of Journalists (ANP) that the First Civil Court of the city of Juliaca had ordered the elimination of an article that questioned the appointment of the personnel coordinator of the Puno Superior Court of Justice."
