"The National Association of Journalists (CNP, by its acronym in Spanish) of Venezuela celebrated the release from prison of opposition leader Pedro Guanipa, one of 13 political prisoners whose release was announced on Sunday [Aug. 24] by opposition sources, and demanded a ‘fair trial’ for the activist, who was granted precautionary measures.

'Although our colleague Pedro Guanipa has been released from prison and we welcome this measure, after almost 11 months in detention, he is not completely free,' the CNP said on its X account, noting that the activist was placed under house arrest.

In this regard, the CNP demanded ‘respect for due process and a fair trial’ for Guanipa, as well as ‘full freedom’ for all journalists detained in Venezuela for political reasons, which it claims number 18."
