The Rey de España International Journalism Awards recognized the fight for press freedom in Nicaragua (La Prensa) and Venezuela (the CONNECTAS news platform) on Thursday, along with cross-border reporting, coverage of vulnerable communities in Brazil, the portrayal of modern womanhood through Argentina’s first saint, and an investigation into water contamination in Spain.
A jury led by EFE President Miguel Ángel Oliver and Antón Leis, director of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID for its initials in Spanish), along with six journalists from media outlets and institutions in Portugal, Panama, Argentina, Mexico, and Spain, selected the winners from 256 entries submitted from nearly 20 countries.
The awards are organized by Agencia EFE and the AECID.
