"Journalists' associations, the Ombudsman's Office and former authorities [in Bolivia] remembered the day for journalists not as a celebration, but as a grievance of the constant struggle and the great challenge faced by journalism in the face of recurrent cases of violence, hostility and precarious working conditions. The journalists' union demanded the State create protection mechanisms.
The entity representing the press workers in the country categorically pointed out the situation of journalism as 'critical,' where men and women journalists face job instability, low salaries, judicial harassment and physical and symbolic aggressions, among them, smear campaigns from those in power and propaganda apparatuses to damage the credibility of independent journalism."
