Bill to protect journalists from attacks and stigmatizing speech introduced in Argentina

"A group of representatives presented a bill that seeks to provide a framework of protection for journalists, photojournalists and press workers to ensure the free and safe exercise of their work in the face of the constant attacks and risks to which they are exposed daily.

'This initiative is presented as a tool to discourage the impunity of those who attempt to silence voices and restrict the diversity of perspectives and opinions,' the signatory representatives added, echoing concern about the violence President Javier Milei expresses toward journalists.

Among other objectives, the initiative seeks to 'prevent, protect, and guarantee the freedom, safety, and integrity' of journalists, photojournalists and press workers,' 'ensure the protection of journalistic sources' and 'investigate, prosecute, and punish attacks, assaults, threats, or intimidation' against them."
