Censor must review publications by Mexican journalist accused by governor, court confirms

"The Superior Court of Justice of the State [of Campeche, Mexico] upheld the precautionary measures against journalist Jorge González Valdez, who must have a censor review his publications, while the Tribuna news website must notify that body of all publications mentioning the governor of Campeche, Layda Sansores.

On Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, a hearing was held in Campeche to review the precautionary measures against Organización Editorial del Sureste, S.A. de C.V. [the publishing house of Tribuna], a process in which the journalist is also accused.

Tribuna considered that this resolution continues to be an act of censorship that contravenes Articles 6 and 7 of the Mexican Constitution, which guarantee freedom of expression and prohibit prior censorship, as well as Article 13 of the American Convention on Human Rights, which prohibits indirect restrictions on the exercise of the press."
