"On the night of Nov. 5, 2025, approximately eight people positioned themselves with a megaphone and a sign outside the Centro Cultural España in Mexico City, the venue for the 14th Festival Latam organized by Distintas Latitudes, an event that brings together prominent media outlets and journalists from the region. In the middle of the street, they staged a protest against José Jasán Nieves, editor-in-chief of elTOQUE, who was a guest at the event.
The act, which mirrors the strategies and procedures of the Cuban regime to intimidate anyone who dares to question it, coincides with a new coordinated campaign to discredit elTOQUE, especially due to the Informal Market Representative Rate service that our media outlet has published since 2021.
[...]
The individuals who harassed our colleague carried a printed sign and a megaphone, through which they repeated the false and discrediting narrative of the Havana government. The person leading the harassment also reiterated the discourse of the Cuban leaders and accused José Jasán and elTOQUE of being 'mercenaries in the service of imperialism' and 'manipulators of the Cuban economy.'"
