"Community journalist Max Emiliano Negrete González, who documents the lives and struggles of Indigenous communities in southern Mexico City, reported receiving death threats through Instagram. One anonymous account sent him a message saying he had 'eight days to live.'

He said the threats may be tied to his reporting on land and territorial defense issues in the Xochimilco borough. He also suggested that political operatives and people connected to the local government may be behind the intimidation.

Negrete has been part of Mexico City’s Comprehensive Protection Mechanism for journalists and human rights defenders since September 2024. Even so, he said the number and severity of the recent threats have increased. He filed a formal complaint so authorities can document the incidents and take effective action."
