A Honduran Catholic Church official accused of assaulting a journalist will be tried by the supreme court, the highest court of justice, due to his church status, reported the organization C-Libre.
The priest, Carlo Magno, who is considered a high official for being the chancellor of the Catholic Church in Honduras, was accused of assaulting a TV reporter, Luis Ortiz of channel Canal 36 Cholusat, who tried to interview him regarding the renunciation of a Catholic priest, reported the newspaper El Patriota and Canal 36 Cholusat. The case was referred to a higher court when the journalist complained that the justice system was granting the church leader "protection from punishment," reported the organization C-Libre.
In this way the leader will avoid a criminal trial, even though Honduras is a secular country, reported the newspaper El Libertador.
