Guatemalan reporter denied access to soccer game after reporting on fan violence

A Guatemalan sports reporter claimed that a member of the board of directors of the Cobán Imperial soccer team tried to prevent him from entering the stadium to cover a game, according to the Guatemalan Center for Investigative Reports (Cerigua in Spanish).

Eduardo Sam Chún, reporter for Prensa Libre in the northern department of Alta Verapaz, claimed that Jorge Paz, one of the board's members, tried to keep him out of the stadium after he published an article saying that police used teargas to control disturbances caused by fans of the soccer team on Dec. 4.

President of the Board of Directors Rudy Pereira and Vice-President Juan Sierra said that Paz's actions did not reflect the organization's official position and that they never banned the reporter, according to Cerigua.
