At least 15 journalists have fled Mexico seeking asylum abroad, according to an interview with Reporters Without Borders (RSF in French) Mexico representative Balbina Flores on Radio Fórmula.
Furthermore, some 20 reporters have had to leave their home states, like Veracruz, Chihuahua, Michoacán and Guerrero, because of threats, reported the website Eje Central.
Another 50 reporters sought refuge in the capital, Mexico City, between 2010 and 2012 but had to return to their home states when they were unable to find work, according to the newspaper El Universal.
"It's been three months of frustration, sadness and anger to see the lack of government funding for displaced journalists in protection programs," a reporter from Morelos raking refuge in Mexico City told the newspaper El Universal.
