The Mexican Navy arrested an alleged drug trafficker that may be linked to the killing of four media employees in Veracruz, according to the newspaper Milenio.
On Friday, Aug. 10, Mexican authorities arrested Juan Carlos Hernández Pulido, aka “La Bertha,” who allegedly is the head of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación, according to the news agency AFP. In the suspect's vehicle, authorities found the ID of one of the four journalists killed in May, Ana Irasema Becerra, employee for the newspaper El Dictamen in Veracruz and romantic partner of photographer Guillermo Luna, according to El Universal. On May 3, 2012, Becerra and Luna were two of the four dismembered bodies found with signs of torture in Veracruz, on the Gulf of Mexico shore.
The three killed photographers, Gabriel Huge, Esteban Rodríguez, and Guillermo Luna, worked with the newspaper Notiver in the past and left the state of Veracruz after receiving death threats, according to the freedom of expression organization Article 19.
In addition to this multiple homicide, six other crimes against journalists still have not been solved, such as the disappearance of four journalists in Veracruz, one of the 10 most dangerous places in the world for the press.
