Former TV executive José Enrique Crousillat, who was convicted of selling his station’s editorial line during the regime of President Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000), was returned to prison after being released for health reasons and later turning fugitive.
In December 2009, Crousillat was jailed for bribery and crimes against public administration for taking money from Fujimori’s security chief, Vladimiro Montesinos, to air pro-government stories on América Televisión. He was pardoned for health reasons in March of 2010, but after footage of him visiting restaurants and beaches stoked public outcry and led to the abrogation of his pardon, he fled to Argentina
Back in Lima, he was arrested and placed in a maximum security prison, Perú21 reports. The court has 15 days to resolve challenges from the defense to the legality of jailing Crousillat, Radio Programas del Peru adds.
