With the Committee to Protect Journalists reporting 861 journalists killed in the line of duty since 1992, and another 145 in prison currently, YouTube has launched a journalist memorial video channel, according to ReadWriteWeb.
The Journalists Memorial video channel, a "tribute to journalists who have died pursuing the news," is a combined effort of the Newseum and Google. The channel essentially will be a digital version of the Newseum's Journalists Memorial, which currently includes the names of 2,084 journalists killed. So far, the preliminary list of journalists killed in 2011 includes 19 names, such as Luciano Leitao Pedrosa of Brazil, Luis Emmanuel Ruiz Carrillo of Mexico, and Chris Hondros of the United States.
The channel also is seeking input from the public to post videos about and by journalists who have been killed.
Below is one of the channel's memorial videos, this one about Mexican journalist Jose Luis Romero, a reporter for the Línea Directa radio station who was known for his broadcasts on drug trafficking. He was found shot to death in early 2010, a few miles from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, two weeks after he was kidnapped.
