The government’s National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) is investigating reports of death threats against Milenio Semanal magazine reporter Jorge Alejandro Medellín, Noroeste reports.
According to the Center for Journalism and Public Ethics (CEPET), Medellín was threatened after publishing an article on alleged connections between organized crime and a general who leads an anti-drug trafficking military unit in northern Mexico. On Oct. 31, someone posted a comment on the online edition of Milenio Semanal saying: “They are going to kill you reporter.”
The journalist, who specializes in security and drug trafficking coverage, also received e-mailed threats, Quadratín explains.
The CNDH said it will continue to monitor the situation, El Universal adds.
