La Jornada reports that both the Special Prosecutor for Attention to Crimes Against Freedom of Expression and the National Human Rights Commission (NCHR) are investigating the complaint of photojournalist Irineo Mujica Arzate, who is accusing agents of the National Institute of Migration (INM) of hitting him and stealing his equipment.
Mujica, from the state of Michoacán, was working on a documentary about the train crossings of Central American migrants trying to head to the United States.
The train car Mujica was riding in was intercepted by Mexican immigration agents, who mistreated the migrants and the journalist, explained e-Consulta. Mujica said agents took his cameras, his cell phone, and money.
To protest, the journalist has gone on a hunger strike, reported El Universal. Mujica also chained himself outside the INM offices in Puebla, but police forced him to leave, added La Crónica de Hoy.
