Shooters stage late-night attack on Mexican TV station

By Ingrid Bachmann

The offices of Televisa’s Canal 2 in Tepic, Nayarit (on Mexico’s central Pacific coast) were attacked with AK-47s and grenades, La Jornada reports. The facilities suffered damage, but neither of the two people in the offices were wounded, Europa Press adds. (See this Associated Press article in English.)

The attackers threw three grenades: one that exploded inside the building and two others that landed on the roof and failed to detonate, El Universal explains.

Station employees said they did not know a motive, but a message was found near the building attributing the attack to a Sinaoloa-based drug cartelEl Economista adds, citing local reports.

Mexico’s National Commission on Human Rights condemned the violence, saying this was the eight media outlet attacked with explosives since 2000, Notimex reports.
