Cuba first digital magazine debuted earlier this month, thanks to independent blogger Orlando Luis Pardo Lazo, editor of "Voces", or Voices, reported the Miami Herald (in English), and El Nuevo Herald (in Spanish).
According to the Herald, Voices' first issue contained 22 articles written by authors such as popular Cuban blogger Yoani Sánchez.
Although the blogs of dissidents or independent journalists like Pardo are blocked on the island, the article explained, Cubans still can access the magazine via proxy servers.
This latest entry to the blogosphere comes as Cuba has been releasing political prisoners held since a crackdown on dissidents in 2003. Of those freed so far, 14 have been journalists, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Still, the freed journalists do not necessarily represent an easing of freedom of expression restrictions, as earlier this month blogger Luis Felipe Rojas was arrested after writing about human rights violations on the island.
