Brazilian reporter accuses councilman of intimidation

By Maira Magro

Reporter Márcia Pache, of TV Centro Oeste, the affiliate of the channel Sistema Brasileño de Televisión (SBT) in Mato Grosso, filed another complaint against Councilman Lourivaldo Rodrigues de Moraes, of the city of Pontes e Lacerda, for continuing to intimidate her, reported Comunique-se.

Pache said the councilman circled her house and then parked his car in front of the station where she works, making her feel intimidated and fearful of possible reprisals, according to the article.

The incident occurred after the Pontes e Lacerda council established a committee to investigate the councilman's aggression against the journalist. On June 28, Moraes slapped the reporter when she tried to interview him about a lawsuit against him for invasion of property and misappropriation of the pension of a retiree. The attack was videotaped and has been seen by thousands of Internet users.

Various organizations have condemned the councilman's attitude.
