Electricity disconnected at two Honduran community radio stations

Two unknown men disconnected the electricity of two community radio stations in Honduras on Thursday, April 12, reported the organization C-Libre.

When the incident happened, journalists from the stations La Voz Lenca and Radio Guarajambala were supporting the Lenca indigenous community's protest against the construction of a private energy plant in the western department of Intibucá, according to the news site Conexihon. There was "too much criticism from these radio stations," said the men that committed the act, according to C-Libre.

Both community radio stations belong to the opposition group Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras. The stations previously had reported electrical outages caused by employees of the Honduran electricity service, forcing the stations to suspend transmission, reported C-Libre.
