Local TV host escapes gun attack in Northeast Brazil

TV host and radio broadcaster Handson Laércio was shot Wednesday, April 14, while leaving his home in Bacabal, Maranhão, to host his program on TV Mearim, the news portal Imirante reports. On entering his car, Laércio was confronted by his attacker and was shot in the hand.

The broadcaster played dead, and his attacker fled on a motorcycle with his face covered, the site reports. Laércio, who also hosts a police program on a local radio station, said in an interview with rádio Mirante AM that he suffers threats daily. (Hear the complete interview). He said he doesn't have a suspect but believes the crime must have been ordered. He received medical treatment and was reported to be at home in good condition.
