Peruvian newspaper hit with three homemade bombs

The Peruvian newspaper Voces was hit with three homemade explosives in the city of Tarapoto, Panamericana Televisión reports.

The early Saturday morning attack only damaged the entrance to the building, and workers managed to put out the flames, Peru.com explains.

Crónica Viva said the attack may be linked to articles in the paper against a congressional candidate and said that the journalist who wrote those stories, Lenin Quevedo, had previously received death threats on his cell phone.

The Regional Council of the Journalists’ Union called on journalists and the general population to remain “cautious, steadfast, and vigilant” to avoid a return to the time of violence from drug trafficking and terrorism from the Shining Path.
