Phone calls made from prison threaten Peruvian TV host

The host of a television news program in the province of Ucayali, in the eastern Amazonian region of Peru, received a death threats over the phone from a prison in the capital, Lima, reported the Press and Society Institute.

Nelson Tuanama Cachique, host of the show La Hora de la Verdad, said that the threats were likely motivated by his accusation of corruption against the president of the regional government in Ucayali, Jorge Velásquez Portocarrero. They also might have been from his reporting on the mayor's daughter who demanded brides from a businessman, according to the newspaper Crónica Viva. The reporter said the aggressor left him eight insulting voice mails.
