Radio journalist stabbed to death in El Salvador

Radio journalist Nelson Hernández was stabbed to death in the wee hours Wednesday, June 8, in Izalco, west of the capital of El Salvador, as he was headed to work at the radio station SKY, reported El Universal.

His body was found in the river Sensunapán, according to ADN. The killing of Hernández, 47, a veteran journalist who previously had worked at the radio stations Nacional and Cuscatlán and television stations in Sonsonate, was condemned by his journalist colleagues throughout the regions, according to ElSalvador.com.

For now, motives for his killing remain unknown and it is unclear whether the journalist has been threatened before, said the news agency EFE.

So far this year, journalist killings have been recorded in HondurasBrazilMexicoGuatemala and Venezuela.
