Police detained two suspects for the killing of two reporters in Mexico City, reported the newspaper El Universal. The reporters, Marcela Yarce and Rocío González Trápaga, were killed in an abandoned property on the evening of Sept. 1, on their way to exchange one million Mexican pesos (more than U.S. $72,000) into U.S. dollars, reported the EFE news agency.
Marcela Yarce ran public relations for the magazine Contralínea; González Trápaga was a reporter for Televisa. Both women also managed a real estate publication while González was a co-owner of a currency exchange in the Mexico City airport.
Yarce knew one of the suspects, 29-year-old Oscar Yahir Quiñones, who ran a parking garage near her work and offered the women a better exchange rate, reported CNN México.
Mexico City Prosecutor Miguel Ángel Mancera said that the suspects were identified through cell phone calls and text messages made the day of the assault, according to Radio Fórmula.
