Attacks against journalists and human rights defenders increased in Mexico

"The incorporation of journalists and human rights defenders into the Protection Mechanism for various grievances increased by 88.7 percent so far during the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

At the beginning of the administration, in December 2018, 798 were registered and to date there are a total of 1,506, of which 495 are journalists and 1,011 are human rights defenders, reported this Tuesday [Oct. 5] the head of the Human Rights Unit of the Secretariat of the Interior, Enrique Irazoque Palazuelos."
