Article 19, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Fundación para la Libertad de Prensa (FLIP), Freedom House, Asociación por la Democracia y los Derechos Humanos de Honduras and Reporteros de Investigación denounced and demanded that Honduran authorities investigate attacks on journalists and human rights defenders that have been taking place in recent months.
According to the organizations, both journalists and human rights defenders are victims of different types of aggressions ranging from intimidation, stigmatization, judicial persecution, and criminalization. There have also been reports of smear campaigns that seek to link these people with criminal organizations.
Among the cases mentioned are those of journalists Dina Meza, correspondent of Reporters Without Borders and representative of PEN International in Honduras, and Wendy Funes, of Reporteros de Investigación.
