Ten Nicaraguan journalists tell why they continue to do journalism in the country

"Under the Daniel Ortega regime, the practice of journalism has become increasingly difficult in Nicaragua. If this was already a difficult profession, now the lack of access to information, the constant harassment, the consummate confiscation of media outlets, the murders of journalists in full exercise of their work, and the trials and sentences of Nicaraguan journalists have made the work an act of resistance.

On this National Journalists Day, which cannot be celebrated under these conditions, we [at Niú] asked ten Nicaraguan journalists: why do you continue with journalism in Nicaragua? These are their responses from the trenches in defense of freedom of the press and expression, local and national outlets; independent or in exile."
