Two years on, police continue to occupy newsroom of Nicaragua's Confidencial

“Two years ago, at midnight on Dec. 13, 2018, the Police at the service of Daniel Ortega's regime assaulted and looted the newsroom of Confidencial and Esta Semana, without a court order. A day later, the outrage continued with the permanent occupation of our newsroom by armed members of the Police, who have been there for 24 months.

The assault and illegal occupation of Confidencial represent a triple attack: against freedom of the press, freedom of expression and freedom of business, rights that are protected in the Political Constitution.

In January of last year, the Government also imposed a de facto censorship against Channel 12, 100% Noticias, and cable television, to prevent the broadcast of Esta Semana, Esta Noche, and other independent television programs, violating the right to freedom of dissemination of information."
