"In a press release, the digital magazine GatoEncerrado announced the closure of its administrative and financial operations in El Salvador, stating that the decision is in response to restrictions arising from recent laws and regulations affecting the practice of journalism and the functioning of social organizations in the country.
The statement said 'it is impossible to legally exist in a country that does not respect freedom of the press or due process and that has the three branches of government concentrated in a single person who modifies the Constitution of the Republic at will.'
The outlet stated that it will continue its journalistic work from exile with the goal of raising awareness about the reality of El Salvador and the Central American region."
