"Amid concerns regarding the safety of journalists in various regions of [Colombia]—and the uncertainty (as well as conflicting accounts) surrounding the case of media professional Mateo Pérez in Briceño, Antioquia—the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation has announced a new directive aimed at strengthening investigations into attacks against the press.
The entity issued Resolution 00119 of 2026, a document establishing specific criteria for addressing threats, attacks and crimes committed against journalists, communicators and other media workers.
As explained by the investigative body, the regulation establishes 'guidelines to guide the investigation of crimes and threats committed against' the aforementioned actors.
The office maintains that the new resolution seeks to strengthen institutional capacity to respond to this type of case, incorporating stricter and more timely tools 'in recognition of the essential role that journalism plays in society.'"
