The Bolivian district attorney said suicide was the cause of death for journalist David Niño de Guzmán, news editor for Agencia de Noticias Fides (ANF), reported AFP. According to the prosecutor, Niño de Guzmán committed suicide in April 2010 because of "emotional problems, deep depression and family problems." However, the mother of Niño de Guzmán's child submitted a brief to the district attorney of La Paz requesting that the case be re-opened, arguing that there are subjective criteria in the investigation, noted Los Tiempos.
Shelia C., the mother of Niño de Guzmán's child, according to Los Tiempos, said she "absolutely rejects the claims that Niño de Guzmán killed himself.
The journalist's body was found on Thursday, April 21, 2010, in a vacant lot in La Paz with his stomach blown out by a dynamite charge. Local media commented on the "strange circumstances" that surrounded the journalist's death.
