On Nov. 17, electronic equipment and office supplies were stolen from the Venezuelan freedom of expression NGO, Public Space, in the capital city of Caracas, reported the Press and Society Institute.
Carlos Correa, director of the group, told the newspaper El Universal that security cameras caught people stealing desktop computers, laptops, and a video camera, among other things. The theft was reported to the Corps of Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations.
This is not the first aggression the Venezuelan NGO has suffered. At the request of President Hugo Chávez, Public Space is under investigation by the Public Ministry for receiving funds from international organizations with the alleged goal of promoting "spaces of attack against President Hugo Chávez.” In 2010, Venezuelan state television broadcast a campaign to discredit Correa, who was also attacked and threatened during a freedom of expression protest this year.
