Journalist's allegations of irregularities draw threats from Brazilian politician

The journalist Wesley Silas accused federal Deputy Laurez Moreira of insulting and threatening him on Dec. 9, according to Conexão Tocantins. The politician was upset about an article that reported irregularities with an NGO connected to him.

According to Silas, editor of the website Atitude in the interior state of Tocantins, the deputy insulted him and threatened him over the phone after reading the report on the Juarez Moreira Institute, which Moreira directs, reported A Notícia.

Atitude made a statement alleging that Moreira had "frequently harassed Wesley Silas to not publish the report, saying that it could harm his ambitions to become mayor of Gurupi (a city in Tocantins)." The politician also threatened to take actions against the website if he were elected mayor.
