Journalist shot, killed in southern Guatemala

A journalist in Guatemala was gunned down and killed in the south of the country, AFP reported.

Unknown men shot Jaime Jarquín, correspondent for newspaper Nuestro Diario, while he chatted with three friends at a store in the city of Pedro de Álvaro, near the border with El Salvador, according to newspaper Siglo 21. During the incident, another person died and two were injured.

His relatives said that the journalist had not received threats before. Auhtorities have yet to determine the motives behind the attack, newspaper Prensa Libre said.
