Three Mexican journalists wounded covering protests against president’s visit

Radio Rama journalist Gildardo Mota was shot in the leg while covering a confrontation between police and professors who were protesting Mexican President Felipe Calderón’s visit to the southern city of Oaxaca, the Associated Press reports.

Mota told Article 19 that “there were many federal police, there were snipers and a lot of smoke.”

According to EFE, two other journalists, photographers Darío Nolasco and Jaime García, were among the at least 15 professors, reporters, and police officers who were injured in the clash. The three journalists plan to submit a formal complaint against the police.

In June 2010, MVS Radio reporter Ixtli Martinez was also shot in the leg covering a protest in Oaxaca.
