Gabino Cue, governor for the Mexican state of Oaxaca, has created a special prosecutor's office to re-open the investigations into the deaths of 26 people -- including New York journalist Bradley Will -- who were killed during protests against the government in 2006, reported Milenio and the Associated Press.
Last a suspect in Will's death, Juan Manuel Martinez, was released, the Associated Press said. Will was killed while videotaping the conflict between protesters and supporters of then-governor Ulises Ruiz. The organization Friends of Brad Will says Martinez was a scapegoat.
In 2008, Mexico's National Human Rights Commission called on prosecutors to re-open the investigation into Will's killing.
